Brand New Tools And Carbide Insert Configurations From Iscar To Better Enhance The Machining Process

Iscar is announcing Penta 34 carbide inserts using a innovative PB chipformer. The PB chipformer features a single cavity using a positive rake, neutral shoulder angle, and a honed edge. It is actually a C-type chipformer using a different frontal edge.

The completely new chipformer was tailored for machining soft materials. It is an wonderful solution for parting bearing steel and other exceptionally ductile materials. It can be used at low feed: 0.03 to 0.10 mm/rev.

The combination of the revolutionary chipformer and IC908 grade provides outstanding chip breaking and tool life results. The Penta 34-PB is available in a 1.5 to 3.0 mm width range, made from the functional IC908 PVD coated grade. The new family advances the application range of Iscar's most practical grooving and parting PENTA 34 carbide inserts. The Penta 34-PB, when examined to a competitor's tool, is a winning solution for machining several soft and ductile material.

Iscar's Upgrades for Parting

Iscar has developed a new family of reinforced Tang-Grip blades for the celebrated TRAUB (TNL and TNK models) and INDEX (MS18C model) turn/mill machines. These blades, due to their reinforced architecture, can be used in long overhang. Only the part of the blade imperative for penetration (cutting depth) has a reduced width. The rest is thick, which provides upgraded rigidity and stiffness. These blades are an remarkable solution for parting and grooving in between the main and sub-spindle of turn/mill machines. The single-ended insert has a incredibly rigid clamping and therefore provides a substantially important advantage over any other system.

Further additions to Iscar's Grip family are Do-Grip carbide inserts made from the completely new Sumo Tec carbide grades: IC807 IC808 and IC830. The new Sumo Tec grades unquestionably extend insert life, due to the most advanced coating technology followed by a specific surface treatment. This also provides enhanced tool life due to low surface stress and an uniformly coated top surface. The level surface contributes to constant uninterrupted chip flow, less generated heat and less friction. The new process enhances toughness and chipping resistance and thus curtails friction and built-up edge. This in turn maximizes and prolongs tool life at expanded machining conditions for all types of work piece materials. The new PVD process is made of Iscar's AL-TEC coating technology, using the unique surface treatment.

Iscar's Chip Splitting Inserts
Iscar's brand new HM90 APCR 220605-CS grooved carbide inserts put an end to chip clogging obstacles in rough milling of aluminum, where chips can pile up. They are a part of Iscar's growing Helialu HM90 line of inserts tailored specially for aluminum milling. With two grooves pressed into each polished cutting face, the inserts split aluminum chips into a easy size for easy, reliable evacuation despite the application's characteristic immense chip volume. The 22 mm inserts, each with 2 edges, are designed to magnify metal removal over the full range of aluminum roughing conditions, from high power/low speed to high power/high speed. They work specifically well with Iscar's cutting edge HM90 EAL/FAL...22 aluminum rough milling cutters. Besides reliably clearing chips, the inserts conserve power and decrease chatter in long-overhang setups. The inserts feature a cavity on the bottom to ensure correct mounting in cutter chip pockets equipped with normal spring pins. For best chip control, Iscar recommends using the HM90 APCR chip-splitting insert only in cutters with an even number of flutes.
