Most people, when they consider people making a living by becoming stylists in the fashion world, think of glamour, glitz and freebies. Well, this is to some extent true. Since the glamour, glitz and freebies are just a part of the life of a person in this career; they also have to deal with stress, fatigue and insomnia. Obviously, their job may be fun (like everybody else's) but it can also be exhausting and at times frustrating. So what kind of person is your average fashion stylist? They're the type of individuals who wake up at the crack of dawn, get all the paraphernalia together and then get to workplace ASAP. They often have to be there, at the minimum, two hours early so they have enough time to get everything set up and their talents prepared. Most stylists would say that the best thing about their jobs would have to be the freebies and the thing that you get to meet a lot of famous people. The pitfalls would have to be the long period they have to put in and of course the approach that a lot of celebrities seem to have. However, being a stylist isn't just about how decent they are with their work, they should also have the credentials to back them up, which means, that they should have at least learned in a fashion school and have built up a network before trying it out in the real world. Relating to the job description for a fashion stylist, let's simply say it's a little overwhelming. To begin with, these persons are the ones who create the visual images you and just about everyone else sees in photos in magazines and in music videos and the likes. These are people who make use of design briefs and work with various groups of individuals such as photographers, designers, art directors, set builders and also light technicians. Their normal work activities usually include being in contact with public relation companies, retailers and manufacturers; being the one to find the best product to be used for a shoot; borrowing, buying or renting clothes and props; getting said items to location or to the studio and confirming they work best with their designed use; being the ones to dress people, particularly the models on shoot; making sure to grow a network of contacts and; being ready for whatever fashion emergency may come their way. These people are usually employed by advertising agencies, magazines, media design companies, music production organizations, newspapers, retail organizations and publishers. So as you can see, being a fashion stylist is not all fun games where you get to play dress up on your liked celebrity or model. Being in this line of job requires a certain kind of expertise which not many can master. This job also mean not just being innovative but also being street savvy and knowing how to get along with people of big egos. Being in this line of work is not easy and isn't for the faint hearted.
